Listing those who will die

Something extraordinary happened Wednesday night in the House of the Representatives. Rep. Alan Grayson (D-FL), gave a speech on health care. He continued speaking about the 44,000 Americans who die each year because of lack of health insurance. This time, he broke out the number who will die next year by the Congressional district of those who oppose the reform bill. Republicans went to great lengths to shut him up, but they didn’t (they start trying in Part Three). Watch it.

War At Home

DomesticViolenceMonthAccording to a 2006 CDC study, one in four women experience domestic violence in their lifetime.
If you, or someone you know is being intimidated, threatened, shoved, slapped,  or hit, then you might recognize this behavior as domestic violence. Less overtly recognizable domestic violence behaviors include: forced sex, financial control, isolation, and emotional abuse. Help is available. In Metro Atlanta, Partnership Against Domestic Violence (PADV) operates a confidential 24-hour crisis line (Fulton: 404-873-1766/Gwinnett:770-963-9799), or  call the National Domestic Violence Hotline: 1-800-799-SAFE (7233). Help is available to callers 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Hotline advocates are available for victims and anyone calling on their behalf to provide crisis intervention, safety planning, information and referrals to agencies in all 50 states, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Assistance is available in English and Spanish with access to more than 170 languages through interpreter services.

October is  Domestic Violence Awareness Month. This is a short film created for Atlanta-based Partnership Against Domestic Violence by Kilgannon.

Like the Dew wah diddy

LikeTheDewWahDiddyA couple of months ago, Like-the-Dewer, Terri Evans, read an email requesting entries for Dotster’s Next Big Small Business Contest. The winner would receive a modest cash prize and, more importantly, some promotion. Dotster is

LikeThe.Dew.com’s internet host. Terri spent untold minutes preparing an essay describing LikeTheDew and submitted it.
On July 30th, Dotster announced that LikeTheDew is one of 20 finalists* (we don’t know how many entries they received, but hope it was over 20) and all we had to do in the next step was to create and submit a two minute video about our site (that will teach Terri to read the fine print in the contest rules). The deadline for submission was midnight, Thursday, August 7th – one whole week.

We blew most of the time talking about great video ideas while drinking beer. Most of the rest talking with people who would love to help, but just didn’t have enough time. So we started Wednesday afternoon (the day before the deadline) on our do – it – yourself – whatever – can – be – done – in – one – day – without – spending – a – dime – video. Click here to see it.
